Release Notes

Tencent does not publish release notes for WeChat for Windows.

The official installer is named WeChatSetup.exe; every new version of the installer has the same file name, which invalidates older versions of the WeChat Chocolatey package.

The WeChat Installer differs from location to location. When installing this package, if your system downloads a variant of the installer with an unknown checksum, the installation fails with a message, "Error - hashes do not match. Actual value was --Hash--".

Please report this error to the package maintainer. The maintainer will use a VPN to try to download that same variant and thus verify that this is an official installer. The hash is added to the package only if it passes this verification.

The WeChat installer has a version number that is different from that of WeChat itself. The Chocolatey package tries to conform to the WeChat version. Sometimes, the package version may differ in the revision number when a newly discovered variant of the installer needs to be added to the package. For example, package version 3.4.0.39 is not an official version from Tencent. Instead, it provides Tencent's version 3.4.0.38 in two known variants of the installer.
