IMPORTANT

This version is in moderation and has not yet been approved. This means it doesn't show up under normal search.

  • Until approved, you should consider this package version unsafe - it could do very bad things to your system (it probably doesn't but you have been warned, that's why we have moderation).
  • This package version can change wildly over the course of moderation until it is approved. If you install it and it later has changes to this version, you will be out of sync with any changes that have been made to the package. Until approved, you should consider that this package version doesn't even exist.
  • You cannot install this package under normal scenarios. See How to install package version under moderation for more information.
  • There are also no guarantees that it will be approved.
WARNING

There are versions of this package awaiting moderation (possibly just this one). See the Version History section below.

chocoversionselect has passed automated validation. It may have or may still fail other checks like testing (verification).
NOTE: No required changes that the validator checks have been flagged! It is appreciated if you fix other items, but only Requirements will hold up a package version from approval. A human review could still turn up issues a computer may not easily find.

Guidelines

Guidelines are strong suggestions that improve the quality of a package version. These are considered something to fix for next time to increase the quality of the package. Over time Guidelines can become Requirements. A package version can be approved without addressing Guideline comments but will reduce the quality of the package.

  • Tags (tags) should not contain 'chocolatey' as a tag. Please remove that in the nuspec. More...
Suggestions

Suggestions are either newly introduced items that will later become Guidelines or items that are don't carry enough weight to become a Guideline. Either way they should be considered. A package version can be approved without addressing Suggestion comments.

  • The nuspec has been enhanced to allow more information related to the software. More... Please consider adding one or more of the following to the nuspec, if available:

Notes typically flag things for both you and the reviewer to go over. Sometimes this is the use of things that may or may not be necessary given the constraints of what you are trying to do and/or are harder for automation to flag for other reasons. Items found in Notes might be Requirements depending on the context. A package version can be approved without addressing Note comments.

This is not enough detections to prevent the approval of this package version.

It looks like the only thing holding this up is 1/69 virus scans on a single file in this package. Is the process just waiting for me to acknowledge this?

Pauby (reviewer) on 31 Jan 2024 17:45:02 +00:00:

Hi, a couple of issues / suggestions / questions:

  1. Can you use a static CDN for your <iconUrl> - githack.com and jsdelivr.com are popular. See https://docs.chocolatey.org/en-us/create/create-packages#package-icon-guidelines
  2. Please include the name and checksum for each file embedded in the package. This allows us, and the community, to ensure that the files in the package are the ones that should be in the package. I know you have published the package as a GitHub release and that can be used.
  3. Please follow the standard Chocolatey package scripts format. The chocolateyBeforeModify.ps1 in the package does not do this.
  4. In the binaries folder there is a tools folder with the same chocolateyBeforeModify.ps1 script that is already included in the root tools folder. Please remove it.
  5. Is the file binaries/runtime/win/lib/net8.0/System.Management.dll required? It's already in the binaries folder (albeit a different size)?

Thanks.

barjonas (maintainer) on 16 Feb 2024 16:30:03 +00:00:

  1. OK, done.
  2. Include where? I don't see any documentation on checksums that does not relate to downloaded artifacts from external sources. Can you point me to an package that implements this?
  3. I don't know what you mean by this. The only information I see in the documentation specifies that:
    a. It's a ps1
    b. It's encoded with UTF-8
    c. "This is your opportunity to shut down services and/or processes." "# Use this file to do things like stop services prior to upgrade or uninstall."
  4. OK, I fixed a mistake in the build process.
  5. This is how .NET structures applications to support multi-platform. The DLL in the root is just "not implemented" stubs. Anyway, since I'm only supporting Windows 64 bit, I specified this in the build so now it's gone.

The updated build is here. The push is currently failing with a 403. Maybe that's due to something about this review process I don't understand.

Requirements

Requirements represent the minimum quality of a package that is acceptable. When a package version has failed requirements, the package version requires fixing and/or response by the maintainer. Provided a Requirement has flagged correctly, it must be fixed before the package version can be approved. The exact same version should be uploaded during moderation review.

Hi,

Apologies for the delay.

To answer your questions:

> 2. Include where? I don't see any documentation on checksums that does not relate to downloaded artifacts from external sources. Can you point me to an package that implements this?

You need to add a checksum for each file included in the package, to the VERIFICATION.txt file. An example is on 7Zip.install package.

> 3. I don't know what you mean by this. The only information I see in the documentation specifies that:

All Chocolatey package scripts should start with $ErrorActionPreference = 'Stop'.

Hope that helps.

In cases where actual malware is found, the packages are subject to removal. Software sometimes has false positives. Moderators do not necessarily validate the safety of the underlying software, only that a package retrieves software from the official distribution point and/or validate embedded software against official distribution point (where distribution rights allow redistribution).

Chocolatey Pro provides runtime protection from possible malware.
