NOTE

This package is likely a meta/virtual (*) or an installer (*.install) or portable (*.portable) application package.

  • Meta/virtual (*) - has a dependency on the *.install or the *.portable package - it is provided for discoverability and for other packages to take a dependency on.
  • Portable (*.portable/*.commandline (deprecated naming convention)/*.tool (deprecated naming convention)) - usually zips or archives that require no administrative access to install.
  • Install (*.install/*.app (deprecated naming convention)) - uses native installers, usually requires administrative access to install.

This version is in moderation and has not yet been approved. This means it doesn't show up under normal search.

  • Until approved, you should consider this package version unsafe - it could do very bad things to your system (it probably doesn't but you have been warned, that's why we have moderation).
  • This package version can change wildly over the course of moderation until it is approved. If you install it and it later has changes to this version, you will be out of sync with any changes that have been made to the package. Until approved, you should consider that this package version doesn't even exist.
  • You cannot install this package under normal scenarios. See How to install package version under moderation for more information.
  • There are also no guarantees that it will be approved.

Congratulations! This package passed automatic validation review without flagging on any issues the validator currently checks. A human review could still turn up issues a computer may not easily find.

Should the dependency on this package not be updated to take a direct dependency on the 1.0.9154 discord.install package?

This is typically what happens with these sorts of meta packages. Take a look at the notepad++ package as an example:

https://community.chocolatey.org/packages/notepadplusplus#dependencies

or the vlc package:

https://community.chocolatey.org/packages/vlc#dependencies

kilobyte (maintainer) on 19 Jul 2024 22:44:25 +00:00:

Yes it should! I thought update.ps1 would do this. It did run from appveyor last time. I will take a look at your examples and figure out what's going on.

kilobyte (maintainer) on 19 Jul 2024 22:59:00 +00:00:

Is it possible the first push may have had this problem if I pushed from my local without having run update.ps1. But Appveyor should have updated that version # ... My scripts seem to track pretty closely to the examples you gave, besides differences in the download page/URL structure. Any thoughts? Sorry. I can just manually fix and push this but I would hate for it to happen again next time on autobuild.

Sorry, but I can't speak to the problem that you are seeing, as I am not a big user of AU. My best suggestion there would be to reach out in the Discord channel, so see if anyone can offer any advice there.

It would be good to get this fixed properly, rather than manually making the change, so that it will work going forward, as the problem may not get noticed during a review of a future package version.

This package still does not seem to have the expected dependency (at least in my expectations).

It currently has a depenency of (≥ 1.0.9046) when I would expect it to have a dependency of (= 1.0.9154).

Can you please confirm your expectations align with this?

kilobyte (maintainer) on 23 Jul 2024 17:50:22 +00:00:

Yes, that is my expectation.

I guess I just don't know where that is coming from. I see discord.nuspec has
<dependency id="discord.install" version="1.0.9046" />

There is code that should be replacing that in the AU update.ps1 script au_SearchReplace. It doesn't seem to be working.

Chocolatey-AU seems to be just running the discord.install update routine on the discord package. I'll try the Discord to figure out why & how to fix. Sorry.

There will probably be some more Appveyor pushes in the meantime. I will update when it's good to recheck.

The dependency here now looks to be what is expected, but it also seems to have been part of a manual change that was done here:

https://github.com/kilobyte1024/chocolatey-packages/commit/069a93ff2995a861f0b5c844ceb2dd8455d02f39

Can you confirm that you have fixed the problem, and that this issue won't pop up in future package versions?

Thanks

kilobyte (maintainer) on 26 Jul 2024 15:29:51 +00:00:

No, you're right, this was manually fixed. I fixed this here manually because discord is on to a new version 9155 so AU won't ever update this 9154 version anymore.

I am still trying to figure out a problem with AU's SearchReplace here. It is matching the replacement search expression but either not applying or not saving the replacement itself. I'll debug it.

I am also trying to put through some changes to the examples cited in the docs so other devs don't run into this. (The metapackage example uses a >= dep)
