IMPORTANT

This version is in moderation and has not yet been approved. This means it doesn't show up under normal search.

  • Until approved, you should consider this package version unsafe - it could do very bad things to your system (it probably doesn't but you have been warned, that's why we have moderation).
  • This package version can change wildly over the course of moderation until it is approved. If you install it and it later has changes to this version, you will be out of sync with any changes that have been made to the package. Until approved, you should consider that this package version doesn't even exist.
  • You cannot install this package under normal scenarios. See How to install package version under moderation for more information.
  • There are also no guarantees that it will be approved.
WARNING

There are versions of this package awaiting moderation (possibly just this one). See the Version History section below.

ssis-vs2022 has passed automated validation. It may have or may still fail other checks like testing (verification).
NOTE: No required changes that the validator checks have been flagged! It is appreciated if you fix other items, but only Requirements will hold up a package version from approval. A human review could still turn up issues a computer may not easily find.

Guidelines

Guidelines are strong suggestions that improve the quality of a package version. These are considered something to fix for next time to increase the quality of the package. Over time Guidelines can become Requirements. A package version can be approved without addressing Guideline comments but will reduce the quality of the package.

  • Package contains dependencies with no specified version. You should at least specify a minimum version of a dependency. More...
  • The licenseUrl should be added if there is one. Please correct this in the nuspec, if applicable. More...

  • NEW! We have a test environment for you to replicate the testing we do. This can be used at any time to test packages! See https://github.com/chocolatey-community/chocolatey-test-environment
  • Please log in and leave a review comment if you have questions and/or comments.
  • If you see the verifier needs to rerun testing against the package without resubmitting (a issue in the test results), you can do that on the package page in the review section.
  • If the verifier is incompatible with the package, please log in and leave a review comment if the package needs to bypass testing (e.g. package installs specific drivers).
  • Automated testing can also fail when a package is not completely silent or has pop ups (AutoHotKey can assist - a great example is the VeraCrypt package).
  • A package that cannot be made completely unattended should have the notSilent tag. Note that this must be approved by moderators.

Hi,

The verifier image does not have any version of Visual Studio installed. Would it make sense to take a dependency on Visual Studio 2022, so the package could be installed?
https://community.chocolatey.org/packages?q=visual%20studio%202022

Also, would it make sense to utilize the chocolatey-visualstudio.extension to install this extension?

Hi @TheCakeIsNaOH

Thank you for the review and suggestions.

I try to take some time next week to rewrite the installer to use chocolatey-visualstudio.extension...

Taking Visual Studio as dependency would be possible but I also have some good point to decide against this.

  1. Which Visual Studio Version should be chosen as dependency? Community, Professional or Enterprise? This can install another different instance as already is installed.
  2. In our company we have self-created Visual Studio Chocolatey package on our own Package Server. This package is a offline layout (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/install/create-an-offline-installation-of-visual-studio?view=vs-2022) and the installer files are on a network drive. So our Visual Studio can be installed without Internet connection, and we roll out Visual Studio with a fixed version which corresponds the Visual Studio Build Tools on our build cloud. So having the Visual Studio as a dependency in this package would not fit our demands - and maybe there are also other companies with same demands.
  3. We have a Development Environment package which installs all required development software. We figured out that after installing Visual Studio 2022 a reboot of the machine is required to install any Visual Studio Extensions (Same for SQL-Server and SQL Server Extension packs). That means this package would install Visual Studio, but it would fail installing this extension (maybe this is no longer an issue). I am sure that it would be possible to run a console command to ignore this reboot, but I don't know if its a good idea - it has a reason for this required reboot. We need to reboot the machine 2-3 times to install our Development Environment, this is not nice but ok for us. But for a public package this is imho a no go.

Hi,

You are right that there is no way to pick between the different editions, so Visual Studio should then not be taken as a dependency.
