StyleCop analyzes C# source code to enforce a set of style and consistency rules. It can be run from inside of Visual Studio or integrated into an MSBuild project. StyleCop has also been integrated into many third-party development tools.

The package installs the standalone StyleCop binaries, an extension for Visual Studio 2008-2015 and an extension for ReSharper 8.2 or earlier.

This is the last version of StyleCop published as an MSI installer. Later StyleCop releases (5.x) provide separate packages for the Visual Studio extension (stylecop-vsix) and the ReSharper extension (installable from the ReSharper gallery).

This version is compatible with the following versions of ReSharper:

  • 5.1 (5.1.3000.12)
  • 6.0 (6.0.2202.688)
  • 6.1 (
  • 6.1.1 (6.1.1000.82)
  • 7.0.1 (7.0.1098.2760)
  • 7.1.1 (7.1.3000.2254)
  • 8.2.3 (8.2.3000.5176)
  • 9.2 ( - as an extension from the ReSharper gallery
** NOTE: An error may be displayed when the extension is first installed, but everything should still work normally
  • 10.0.2 ( - as an extension from the ReSharper gallery
** NOTE: An error may be displayed when the extension is first installed, but everything should still work normally

Install order should be :

  • Visual Studio 2008
  • Visual Studio 2010
  • Visual Studio 2012
  • Visual Studio 2013
  • Visual Studio 2015
  • ReSharper (optional)
  • StyleCop
  • StyleCop for ReSharper extensions (optional, and only for ReSharper 9.0 and newer)

In cases where actual malware is found, the packages are subject to removal. Software sometimes has false positives. Moderators do not necessarily validate the safety of the underlying software, only that a package retrieves software from the official distribution point and/or validate embedded software against official distribution point (where distribution rights allow redistribution).

Chocolatey Pro provides runtime protection from possible malware.
